Cemetery Tour:

On Friday afternoon delegates will have the opportunity of visiting Rookwood General Cemetery (RGC), the oldest, largest and most multicultural working cemetery in Australia. Its grounds tell the story of Sydney’s history and cultural diversity, with more than 130 culturally specific and non-denominational lawns and monumental grounds that cater for burials and the interment of ashes. RGC also offer above ground crypts, mausolea, and memorials gardens and niche walls.

Rookwood’s beautiful and peaceful setting, along with its historic and modern structures, make it a fascinating place to visit all year round.

As part of the tour, delegates will have the opportunity of viewing machinery demonstrations, provided by the various Trade Exhibitors.

Following on from Mike Robertson’s morning presentation ‘Understanding & Implementing AS 4204’, the cemetery tour will also include practical demonstrations on interpreting the new standards and pointers on how to ensure headstones, monuments and commemorations are being built to adhere with AS 4204.

The demonstrations will be led by Mike Robertson, Christopher (Sach) Killam, Rookwood General Cemeteries, Martin Forrester-Reid, AlburyCity Council and Independent Chair AS 4204 and Glen Darroch, Globe Memorial Co Pty Ltd and President, Monumental Masons Association NSW. The above named representatives have successfully represented the industry on the Australian Standards Technical Committee BD-071, reviewing and redrafting AS 4204, Headstones, Monuments and Commemorations.
