From an article in the Mordialloc Chelsea Leader: Cheltenham Cemetery manager Tim Beasley, who also manages the Brighton General Cemetery, said plots and crypts were in strong demand. “We are looking at developing a small section of the Brighton cemetery for lawn graves,” he said. A monumental grave costs up to $28,000, while a mausoleum crypt costs up to $40,000.
There are 17 families currently on the waiting list for crypts at Cheltenham.
Ron Ryan of Kingston Funerals said the cost of graves made cremation a more cost-effective option, with 80 per cent of families now opting to cremate their loved ones.
