red-tapeAccording to the Newcastle's Herald, some Cessnock City Council staff will spend their time over the next two weeks writing a report on what type and colour vases and flowers can be placed on plaques in memorial gardens at area cemeteries.

In what has been described as a waste of valuable staff resources and time, the report will be prepared after Cr Allan McCudden's motion to allow family to place flowers on their loved ones' graves was deferred.

Cr McCudden said his motion resulted in a debate that lasted almost an hour and had no outcome.

"There was nothing for these residents who merely want to pay their respects and show their love to their dearly departed," he said.
