FUNERAL director Marc Allison offers a pithy but pertinent line on listed industry giant InvoCare's takeover of its nearest rival, Bledisloe Holdings: "Do you want your mum or dad to be remembered on the stock exchange?"
Allison, whose family owns the John Allison Monkhouse funeral parlour chain in Melbourne and TJ Andrews in Sydney, reflects a visceral disquiet about the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission's decision last month to approve the acquisition.
The purchase increases InvoCare's national share of the $900 million a year industry from 29 per cent to 35 per cent.
