A report in the Liverpool Leader says property prices in Greendale and Bringelly are under threat from four development applications for cemeteries along Greendale Rd,
Homeowners and realtors hold grave concerns the proposals will devalue property and ruin the rural lifestyle of the area.
Frank Fiorenza has lived on Greendale Rd for 38 years and is the owner of F and C Realty in Liverpool. He said the proposals have already caused a plunge in property prices. “Properties in the area are devaluing every day. If I put my 25 acre property on the market today I’d be lucky to get $1.5 million whereas two years ago I’d get $2.5 million easy,” he said.
“Nobody wants to buy there. It’s not known as Bringelly anymore, it’s known as the home of the dead.”
She said the developments would completely change the rural nature of the area.
“Instead of looking at nature and animals, I’ll be looking at tombstones,” she said.
Residents have also complained the roads would not handle the increased volume of traffic and voiced fears seepage would contaminate the nearby Hawkesbury River. They have called on the council to halt processing all applications and refer the matters to the NSW Government Department of Planning.
The report goes on to complain that the council had not responded to enquiries at the time of going to print.
