From the Blue Mountains Gazette: Concerns about the Faulconbridge crematorium proposal will be discussed at the NSW Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA) conference taking place this week. Greens councillor Howard McCallum put the issue on the conference agenda following continuing community concern over the issue. “When residents got active against the proposed crematorium, they discovered that there were no national standards for where such facilities could be located, or for what kinds and levels of emissions were deemed safe,” he said in a statement. “I am attending the LGSA conference in Albury this week and have put this issue on the agenda. “If adopted, the fight for better standards for crematoria will be taken up at a state-wide level and hopefully lead to national standards.
Greens MLC David Shoebridge also raised the matter in State Parliament, asking questions of Planning Minister Tony Kelly after meeting with residents opposing the development in Faulconbridge.
“It is a fitting tribute to all the hard work of residents in researching this matter over many months and preparing such detailed submissions,” Clr McCallum said.
