A report from New Zealand poses the question about who pays the Ferryman:
Plans to increase the cost of burial plots in Marlborough, with a possible 900 per cent hike at one cemetery, has some posing the question; should we share the cost?
Cloudy Bay Funeral Services funeral director Alan Walker said cemeteries were a "community amenity", like parks and reserves, and should not be "user pays".
"We all benefit from [cemeteries] holistically ... and at some stage we're all going to use it, we all pay along the way, we all contribute," Walker said.
Walker presented his submission at a Marlborough District Council hearing on the 'Cemetery Fees Review' on Monday afternoon.
