Snowy Monaro Regional Council have recently completed installing information boards at 16 of their operational cemeteries.

The Snowy Monaro Region covers an area of approx. 15,500 square kilometres and in that area there are 23 listed cemeteries however, a number of these are closed and/or located on private land or owned by the various churches.

As part of funding received through the Stronger Communities Grant Funding during the 2016 council merger process, Council undertook to install information boards to assist visitors to the cemeteries.

In planning the boards it was determined to try and give some historical and/or interesting information related to the cemetery as well as provide an overview plan of the cemetery.

It is hoped that in time Council can advertise and encourage a “Cemetery Trail” as part of tourism in the area.
