The newly established Upper House Regulation Committee has commenced its second ever inquiry, with the subject being the Cemeteries and Crematoria Amendment Regulation 2018.

The Committee Chair, the Hon Scott Farlow MLC, stated, 'This inquiry will examine the impact and implementation of the NSW Government's regulation. In particular, its effect on interment rights, renewable interment rights, and the responsibilities required of cemetery operators in managing cemeteries'.

Mr Farlow explained: 'The regulation, which came into effect on 25 June 2018, is part of the government's program of reforms aimed at achieving a coordinated and strategic approach to the management of interment in New South Wales.'

'The committee encourages all interested groups to take part in the inquiry. In particular, we would like to hear from any stakeholders with comment on the government's approach to interment', Mr Farlow said.

The committee welcomes submissions by the closing date of Friday 7 September 2018. The committee will report by 24 October 2018.
