According to a story in the Daily Telegraph, MACQUARIE FIELDSQUARIE FIELDS state Labor MP Anoulack Chanthivong and Varroville residents have launched a last-ditch bid to stop a cemetery being built on the Scenic Hills.

(NSW) state planning panel unanimously approved changes to the Campbelltown Local Environment Plan in September 2016, paving the way for the development to go ahead. A development application for the cemetery was lodged with Campbelltown Council last year and will soon be decided by the Sydney Western City Planning Panel.

Public submissions on the proposal close this Friday.

Mr Chanthivong said it wasn’t too late for the community to save the land from development and preserve the green belt between Campbelltown and Camden.

“The ongoing protection of the subject land in Varroville and our Scenic Hills is vital. Anything less would be too little, and sadly, too late,” he said.
