Catholic_Cemeteies_Logo.jpgJoint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) unanimously approved the development of a 136,000 plot cemetery at Scenic Hills,  Varroville NSW.

The 136,000 plot cemetery proposed by the Catholic Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust was opposed by numerous community members, the Scenic Hills Association, the Carmelite nuns and state Labor MPs Anoulack Chanthivong (Macquarie Fields) and Greg Warren (Campbelltown).

The JRPP approved the development last Friday, citing several reasons in a statement on the JRPP website including a demand for further cemetery space in the greater Macarthur area.

“The panel believes the proposed proposal has been specifically designed such that it will not harm the area’s visual, cultural and environmental qualities and will act to protect these values in perpetuity,” the statement said.
