The decision comes after a review into the cemetery by consultancy firm Deloitte, which deemed the plan to be financially unviable and recommended council staff review and revise their now seven-year-old cemetery plan of management.


Liberal councillor Angela Burrill said because the project was listed in the original plan of management that it needed to be given full consideration.“But now we can move forward,” Cr Burrill said.Labor’s Ingrid Strewe said she had opposed the plan “from the start”, citing concerns over ongoing debt.Pavilion supporter Bronwyn Kelly, a former director of Waverley Council and Save Waverley Cemetery co-ordinator, told the Courier the council’s decision spelt doom for the cemetery.
