Julie Power, writing in the Sydney Morning Herald this on 22 Nov 2014, says "Grieving families deserved more transparency around the pricing of funerals, burials and cremations, said the inaugural head of the first NSW Cemeteries and Crematoria Board, Mr Stepan Kerkyasharian"

The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) will also be asked to conduct a review of competition, cost and pricing factors in the funeral industry and investigate the pricing of interment rights.

Mr Kerkyasharian, the former chair of NSW Community Relations Commission, said the new act's requirement that the interment practices and beliefs of all religious and cultural groups should be respected and provided for in the future was a "really great breakthrough."
