Canterbury (NSW) resident David McGuinness is one of 40 artists chosen to create a sculpture for Rookwood Cemetery’s Hidden exhibition, which is in its sixth year.

McGuinness is creating a sculpture which is a combination of a rowboat and a coffin, as he tries to showcase the mysteries of life and death.

“Death is inevitable so while we’ve got our bodies, which can be referred to as a vessel, we can paddle around and enjoy ourselves while we can,” he said.

McGuinness — who has taken part in the exhibition for the past two years — is up for the $10,000 prize., which will be presented to one of the artists at the cemetery’s open day on September 14.
