THE Australian Tax Office has backflipped over a controversial plan to chase Victorians to their graves.

The Herald Sun reported last week that grieving relatives will be hit with a tax on death, with the cost of graves, cremations and crypts set to lift by 10 per cent.

Victorian cemetery trusts were told on January 31 that graves, cremation memorials and mausolea crypts will now attract GST, adding up to $1000 to the price of a standard headstone lawn grave.
