According to the Australian newspaper, WA has had to buy a $600,000 crematorium for extremely obese bodies.
The machine, which was installed at Pinnaroo Cemetery last month, can cremate bodies in coffins that weigh up to 350kg.
It followed a number of recent deaths when bodies were so overweight they could not be incinerated and had to be buried.
Until now, the state's biggest crematory could handle coffins that weighed up to 275kg.
Pinnaroo said it bought the oversized cremator to "future-proof" the state for a "disturbing global obesity trend."
"The 350kg capacity is not so much about the here and now as it is about future- proofing," board spokesman Andrew Fox said.
