The recent heavy rains have severely hampered Shoalhaven City Council ground maintenance schedules for operational cemeteries over the past two weeks.

Shoalhaven City Council Bereavement Services Manager, Pierre Duparte said Nowra Cemetery, which was scheduled for ground maintenance early last week, has been particularly affected by the rains.

“The continuing heavy rains have made much of the maintenance work within the area’s cemeteries extremely difficult,” said Mr Duparte.

“Mowing among rows of graves at the Nowra Cemetery is currently impossible as the ground is still extremely boggy in most sections and the grass still very wet. The Anglican Portion is the worst affected at this point in time.

“While Council understands residents concerned with the ongoing delay in mowing the facility, ground maintenance schedules will not be able to recommence until the area receives two or three clear days to allow ground and sub surface water to dissipate.”
