CENTENNIAL Park Cemetery is using sophisticated map technology to guide visitors to their loved one's graves.

Location intelligence specialist Esri Australia has created a website that maps gravesites so people anywhere in the world can find friends or relatives by their first or last name.

The deceased search quickly identifies a single individual from 134,000 burial and memorial sites and reveals such information as age and year of death and where they last lived. It also shows names and details for other people buried in the same plot.

Next is a mobile phone application, planned for release in August, that will enable visitors to navigate around the 40.5ha Centennial Park site, much as with a GPS in a car.
