West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide

West Terrace Cemetery first appeared in Colonel William Light’s 1837 plan of Adelaide and was the focus of considerable controversy in the years following its opening. Final resting place of more than 150,000 souls, the cemetery plays an integral part in the social, political and religious history of South Australia. Home to the southern hemisphere’s first crematorium, the Commonwealth’s first War Cemetery and no end of unique stories, this heritage-listed icon holds both fascination and charm in abundance
