As Deakin University’s Cemetery Course Director, I am delighted to inform you about our exciting offering specifically designed for this vital service sector.
The Graduate Certificate of Cemetery Practice is a unique course, co-designed with sector experts to provide dedicated cemetery and crematoria staff with specialised leadership training.
The course offers cemetery professionals the opportunity to enhance their critical awareness and ability to deal sensitively with a range of essential client service issues. Our specialised units focus on interment and grief in a multi-faith/multi-cultural context and explore how to manage this while balancing a wide array of competing demands around management of physical environments, regulations, and historic values of cemeteries and crematoria.
To help you find out more, I’ve attached the current digital course flyer detailing further information about the course structure and the Deakin experience.
As you know, our sector is well-connected and we rely on networking to share important news and updates. I would appreciate your guidance on any opportunities available to distribute information about the course through your networks and am available to answer any prospective student enquiries about the course.
Deakin is ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide* and our postgraduate courses are ranked #1 for overall employment in Victoria.^ Our academic staff work within the sector and remain active in their fields, so you can be assured we teach the best theory and up-to-date workplace practices.

What current Cemetery Practice students have to say
“My newfound knowledge has equipped me to be better able to discuss some of the issues which arise in pre-burial discussions or correspondence with grieving family members and other relevant stakeholders.”
“At the beginning of this course I had knowledge purely based on what I had learned by conducting and arranging funeral services for families of different religions and cultures. I now feel more confident that our company can better meet their needs during and after the funeral service because of a greater understanding of their rituals and requirements. I have also learned the importance of preserving the history of a cemetery and how that will benefit both the business and the community now and into the future.”
“The teaching staff have been wonderfully knowledgeable, approachable and supportive. They are clearly experts in their field, with a sound base of knowledge and ongoing learning on their part to ensure that contemporary ideas and research are presented.”
