Police-question-mourners.jpgYears ago the Reverend Jim Hall, who conducted many funerals at the Wollongong Crematorium in the 70s to 90s, said to me a funeral was like a wedding. Both bring out the best and the worst in families. To prove Jim right, on the 18th November there was a punch up at a funeral in the UK. It put a couple of people in hospital. The melee has (alledgedly) now escalated to something  worse. Read on...

On the 18th November around 20 officers descended on Daldowie Crematorium in Glasgow after a fight broke out on Thursday lunchtime:

The Mirror reported:

Police have launched an investigation into a firebomb attack on the home of a family linked to a mass brawl at a gypsy funeral. Two men were seen fleeing after a flaming bottle was thrown through the front window of the home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, near Glasgow. Neighbours suspect it was a revenge attack after a fight broke out at a crematorium that hosted the funeral service for traveller "Big" John Connor. One neighbour told the Daily Record the "deliberate attack" in which no one was injured stemmed from a violent feud that has residents on edge.

A couple of days later the Glasgow Live website was reporting:

A 56-year-old man has now been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the incident. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Glasgow Live reported two men were hospitalised after the alleged fight which started at 12.30pm on Thursday, November 17. Six vehicles and 20 police officers attended the scene in the car park and cordoned off the area while investigations took place.

A couple of days later an excited  Daily Record tells us;

A FIREBOMB attack was launched on the home of a family linked to a mass brawl at a gypsy funeral. Emergency services were called to the bungalow at teatime on Sunday after a flaming bottle was thrown through the front window. No one was injured. But neighbours in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, believe it was a revenge attack after a brawl at the crematorium hosting the funeral service for traveller “Big John” Connor.

A wedding in Connor’s family had previously been marred by violence when his grandson John’s bride-to-be was slashed with a Stanley knife by her aunt on the eve of the ceremony.
